Somalia Re-appoints Sanbaloolshe as a National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) Chief
In a recent development, Somalia has announced the appointment of Abdullahi Mohamed Ali, also known as Sanbaloolshe, as the head of the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA). With a distinguished background in National Intelligence and Security activities, the new director is expected to bring a wealth of expertise and commitment to the crucial role.
Prior to assuming this role, Ali served in various capacities within the Somali Federal government including as a minister, ambassador and as a director of NISA twice previously. Their appointment was approved by the Somali Cabinet of Ministers during the council’s weekly meeting in Mogadishu on Thursday.
The Somali Cabinet of Ministers also conveyed appreciation to Mahad Mohamed Salad, the former Director of the National Security and Intelligence Agency, for his service during his tenure, although they did not provide specific details regarding the circumstances of his departure.
Nonetheless, indications imply that he plans to participate in the upcoming Galmudug leadership election later this year.
Since May 26, 2022, Salad has served as the directory of NISA, succeeding President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s re-election. Upon leaving his position, he extended congratulations to the incoming director, Ali, on assuming his new responsibilities.
The appointment comes at a pivotal time when an offensive attack against Al-Shabaab terrorists is at the forefront of Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud’s agendas. Ali is poised to spearhead initiatives aimed at addressing pressing security challenges in Mogadishu and the fight against terrorism.
