President of Somalia receives Italian defense chief in Mogadishu to discuss security cooperation

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Major General Ibrahim Sheikh Muhyadin, the head of the Somali National Army met with the italian defense chief Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, in Mogadishu on Tuesday. They discussed ways to enhance Somali-Italy security cooperation, including the fight against terrorism and support for the security sector development.(1)
The meetings comes after the president Hassan visited Rome last year and asked the Italian counterparts the areas in which the somali government needs strategic partnership to defeat terrorism and restore peace and stability in the country, and strengthen cooperation in sectors such as investment, economy, industry and education through signing of agreements and understanding in various fields. The meeting was part of Italy’s keen interest in improving relations and strengthening security cooperation to recover the lost influence with its former colony.
